A couple fall remnants

While packing up my room I encountered a lot of my fall semester work. Some of it made me a little embarrassed but I found several things that I can still feel good about. Below is a random gouache figure painting on top of some transfers of a vintage sears catalog and the interior of my final for artist's books. Boop! (as always, theyre better quality when full-viewed)

Roh

Roh is my 24-page final project for Paul Karasik's comics class, made in about five weeks. It tells the tale of a girl who was born looking like a frog. There are several elements that would probably make it unsuitable for the younger crowd. I don't want to force my interpretation, but I would like to say that it's a little about gender, a little about sexuality, and a little about how much I liked drawing frogs as a kid.

If you would like your very own copy with a FULL COLOR COVER, mail me $5 and your address and I will send one your way! It may take a while since I will be in Canada this summer and my mail must first be rerouted once or twice before finding me...So you can also email me if you'd like one sooner.

Pizza Zine!

Introducing…RISD Pizza Zine! In addition to all the schoolwork eating up my life, recently I've been working on putting together a zine! The original idea was brought up by some other awesome illustration students, but I decided to give errybody some deadlines and actually get this made (we have so many other things to do that even really good project ideas often get permanently left on the back-burner and eventually char to a crisp).

This pretty little thing is the offspring of eight risd isbabies and features 15 pages of luscious greyscale comics and illustrations all related to humanity’s greatest creation - PIZZA. Need I say more? Cover lovingly drawn by yours truly and layout by the superhuman Karen Sung.

p.s. WANT ONE? HAVE TWO DOLLARS? SEND ME THOSE DOLLARS AND I’LL SEND YOU A PIZZA ZINE!

PARASITE PiZZa

I present to you, two new comics! The first, Parasite, was made for my comics class. This was our "museum piece assignment". Paul asked us to make an eight page comic where one panel features a painting from the RISD museum...I interpreted "painting" pretty loosely and chose Brian Chippendale's "Home on the Run". I'd explain more, but I prefer to let it speak for itself. A lot of sweat and blood went into this one. The second comic is for an upcoming Pizza Zine which features a bunch of us RISD illustration students riffing on pizza and, in some cases (not mine), childhood heroes. As soon as I get that organized and printed I'll put up more about that. I made my submission pretty quickly, but got to try my hand at inking with only a brush, which was pretty enlightening.

Without further ado, the comix!

Oh wait, actually look at this instead.

I ended up doing a bunch of small but important digital revisions to the fable comic after this week's class. They're hard to notice from the thumbnail, but become important when zoomed in or when the comic is printed out at original size (8.5"x11"). Check it out, and definitely view them full size or I will have a sad.
